Balticon 58 was held over Memorial Day weekend May 24-27, 2024. Secretary Betsey Wilcox and Elections Chair Will Hamilton travelled along with Director Jim Dutton to join up with locals Director Beatrice Kondo, Heinlein Journal Editor Herb Gilliland, and Operations Chair John Tilden. We met up with several Lifetime and regular members throughout the weekend.
Beatrice did a wonderful job awarding the 2024 Heinlein Award to Tor Books founder Tom Doherty Friday night.
Saturday there was a thorough interview with Tom conducted by Will and Betsey.
This was followed in the evening by a private dinner with THS members with Tom and his lovely wife Tatiana at a nearby restaurant.
Throughout the day our members attended the wonderful variety of panels and programs at Balticon, filling in spare time chatting with con-goers at our fan table where we gave out THS ribbons and bookmarks. Because of con-goer generosity we collected over eight boxes of books for our Heinlein for Heroes program!
In the last eight years THS attendance at Balticon has grown and if you have wanted to attend a convention and can get to Baltimore, it is a premier fan-run convention focused on writers, artists, and readers.

It was so nice to meet some new friends at the Awards dinner at Blackwall, my first THS meeting. I’ll have to try Balticon next time — I live in Baltimore but never been.
