Post The Time Machine Stories of Donald Keith from BOYS' LIFE
There was some interest in the Time Machine stories on another thread, so I thought I should give it a thread of its own.

I've just rounded up links to the text and illustrations of thirteen stories spread across 30 years of Boys' Life:

http://beamjockey.livejournal.com/150027.html

Quote:
In these stories, a Boy Scout patrol finds an abandoned Time Machine in the wilderness; the Smart Kid figures out the controls and they roar off to adventure, acquiring new patrol members from ancient Sparta and from 4000 A.D. along the way. [...] The Time Machine itself-- a luxurious saucer-shaped model-- was quite powerful, if not quite user-friendly. You could set the controls for any point in space and time, it was built to survive even in outer space, and it featured a time-viewer so you could study history or the future.

Anybody else remember these?

I have never read the Keith, but there are two contemporary series of time travel stories for young readers that are well into the dozens now -- The Time Warp Trio, and the Magic Treehouse. OF the two, the Time Warp Trio is actually amusing.

I have a vauge memory of these stories. I was a Cub and Boy Scout from 1960 - 66(?) While I didn't read Boy's Life all of those years I am sure I read a couple of these stories. It will be fun to read the whole series over the next couple of weeks.
Thank's

I do remember a couple of stories from Boy's Life; I don't remember clear enough if they are the same ones.

I looked at the link (one of the stories) the names look familiar. 1959 would have been when I joined cub scouts.

At this point, I've rounded up all 23 stories that I know of, with links, and written a Wikipedia article about Time Machine series.

I hope this will make the stories findable for those who wish to enjoy them.

I'm years late to this discussion.

I just had a passing memory of these stories as I was reading a review of "The Door into Summer". I had a Boys Life subscription for several years in the 60s, starting well before I actually became a scout. If you read a time machine story in Boys Life, it was one of these.

I came across the same list of Google Books links that was provided twice in this thread, and was surprised and delighted to find out that there were so many more of these stories, and that they were published for a far longer span of time than I would ever have imagined. The few I read probably started with the three part serial from 1965. I may have read them through about 1971.

I just read the first one on my Kindle Fire. I had to zoom the page, which made some of the letters a touch blurred, but it's a short story so it wasn't too rough to read it that way. I'll try the next one out with my iPad to see if it does a better job of holding the resolution as it zooms.

Glad you're enjoying the stories. Some more science fiction in Boys' Life:
