I found this very interesting; Scott Aaronson was trying to figure out how close you'd have to be to "feel" the gravity wave caused by the two giant black holes merging, and in fact you'd have to be really damn close (perhaps a few hundred km).

Then this comment made me finally understand something I'd never really grapsed in all the years of reading Heinlein's star travel stories: ... nt-1001642

Yes, and this stiffness of spacetime to bending by stress-energy matter current densities is why warp drive metric engineering is so nearly impossible.
