Eternal Father, King of birth,
Who didst create the heaven and earth,
And bid the planets and the sun
Their own appointed orbits run;
O hear us when we seek thy grace
For those who soar through outer space.

Sung to this melody, sometimes called The Navy Hymn, which I'm sure RAH knew well.

Apparently SpaceshipTwo broke apart at 50,000'. Due to weight restrictions the pilots do not wear pressure suits, carry oxygen, or use ejection seats. They have only a parachute each. The survivor had to have free fallen under those conditions to pull a ripcord somewhere under 20,000'. Wow.

Apparently video from inside the ship shows the cause to be pilot error: premature release of the feathering mechanism designed to bring the craft down safely after powered flight has ended.
