I was just reading a web page put up by a guy who gathered the case data on the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and ran some numbers to make preliminary preductions about how long the outbreak will last and how many cases to expect:

It's preliminary, but he promises to update the page as data comes in. I found it fascinating, though some of the rest of you would too.

Interesting. And unapocalyptic.

Ebola has a deservedly scary reputation, but apocalyptic it is not. None of the hemorrhagic fevers are; part of their infectious nature and horrific effects is that they change rapidly and that very tendency usually means that they burn out because they've mutated too much to remain infectious after a few generations.

But I'm very glad that my sister and nephew came back from Kenya a couple of months ago. :/
