Forty-four years on... and the first 7/20 in quite some time where I hold some small hope that we've finally found the real path to space.

Here's to Armstrong, Collins and crotchety old Aldrin, and everyone who put them in orbit and got them back, and to the new generations of D.D. Harrimans that might yet fulfill our juvenile-fed dreams.

Here's a 2009 article from the 40th anniversary press coverage that I wasn't aware of until today. It's ten supposed facts that most people likely didn't know about the moon landing. Quite interesting (to me, anyway), especially if they're true. I'm skeptical, if only because the URL refers to "apollo-ii" instead of Apollo 11.

I see what you are doing in that picture, Jim. There's always someone who's got to spoil the class picture with obscene gestures.

I believe there was a made-for-TV movie a couple years ago based on Rocket Men, from which this list was culled, and many of the items made it into the movie. Item #7 is the one that was most interesting to me; if any of the Apollo moonwalkers had accidentally closed the hatch door on the LEM while exiting for EVA, they would not have been able to re-enter, since the hatch door had no outside handle. Yikes!

Humph. If it's not appropriate to moon the camera in that shot, when is it ever?

Jack: One of my favorite cartoons shows two astronauts floating outside the shuttle. Caption: "I thought YOU had the keys!" Never knew it had a grain of truth to it...
