It's quite a sight, and a WHOLE lot safer than watching lightning striking nearby every few minutes and your tent lit up with static electricity. (Which I've seen rather more often than fireflys.)

I don't know, I quite enjoy a summertime Zeusaphone concert. It's quite safe as long as proper precautions are taken.

Here's an example:

But I enjoy firefly shows as well.

Deer density and regulations are roughly identical here (Vancouver Island). Lyme disease extremely rare though (maybe a couple of cases a year). The fawns were late this year, it seems.

You live on Vancouver Island? Tea at the Empress Hotel in Victoria? Wandering through the Butchart Gardens after dark when they're all lit up? Walking along the beach at Pacific Rim National Park and picking up sun-aged glass fishing floats? Seeing grizzly bears fishing in Knight Inlet? (From a boat well offshore -- I'm not crazy.)

I'M SO FRICKING JEALOUS!

:) :) :) :) :)

I spent several short holidays and one long one up there during and after college, when I lived in the Pacific Northwest. It's one of my favorite places ever. And while I did get Lyme's disease after my epic trek into the Northwest Territories, that's one of the few big visits I ever made to Canada when I didn't visit Vancouver Island. ;)

Ay-yuh. And you should see what Butchart does for Christmas. Wonderful lighting displays with a Twelve Days theme all around.
