Romney will be Republican nominee. In the general election, the wild card no one has mentioned is Iran. Obama will try to avoid anything big until after November IMHO but may not be able to hold back the Israelis. Then, who knows? He could look great, or there could be a general Middle East conflagration that he handles badly. I think the economy kinda limps along mediocre-like through November, so I see it as 50-50 unless there's some Iran action.

Recent report says Iran gave up trying to build a nuke in 2003. Maybe there won't be any action.

With three irrational states in it (Iran, Israel, US), there is going to be action on the Iran front before Novemeber, I'm sure.
Need there be? No. But there will be.
What I'm trying to figure out now is if Iran actually will try to blockade the Straight of Hormuz, and what bloody good it could do them.

I am ready to make a prediction.
Obama will win, no matter who runs against him.
Romney can't win without the ultra conservative base, and he won't get it. The ultra conservative base (Santorum, Gingrich) can't win by itself. Santorum is laughable when his 18th Century ideas aren't actually scaring people, and Gingrich is, well, even Republicans don't like Gingrich. Paul's not really running.
And I'll be glad when the current Fox news cycle ends, so O'Reilly and his sort will stop spinning the "Obama is the reason gas is so high" bullshit. Any free marketeer can tell you about supply and demand, and I really thought those guys at Fox would be for the markets. Oh, wait, how could I forget: they're just for themselves, and they spew this stuff so people who are too tired from hard work to look into political issues for themselves will tune in and make them richer.

"Any free marketeer can tell you about supply and demand..." Yes, but gasoline demand in the U.S. has been declining for several years, and supplies are such that the U.S. has become a net exporter of gasoline. Something else is going on.
