Seeking a new low here in the forum. Contribute your original Tom Swifties below. (I'm not googling to see if someone else has thought of these before.)

"I'm suing you again, you bastard," retorted Tom.

"I'm coming!" ejaculated Tom.

"That's no way to barbecue mutton!" lambasted Tom.

"I'm adding another layer," replied Tom.

"No, there are 57," stated Tom.

"Heat up another vat of that," retorted Tom.

"The deceased have no sense of humor!" deadpanned Tom.

This actually happened to me:

"After I injured my right hand, I had to cancel my filksinging performance at Confusion," said Tom disconcertedly.

One of the articles that helped launch the national craze for Tom Swifties may be found here.

In Life for May 31, 1963, Scott Leavitt describes Tom Swifties, a new book by Bill McDonough and Paul Pease. I find that Time ALSO mentioned the book in its May 31 issue.

"Perhaps the book was a favorite of the publisher of both magazines," said Tom loosely.

Oh, the original Swifties pivot on the adverb. I think it's more fun to do it on the verb.

Love the references to the Time and Life articles, and enjoy reading these..but they are harder to come up with than you'd think!

"Give me more of those tiny pieces of cheese now!" grated Tom.

"You don't want to stick your finger in there," advised Tom.

"You need to do something with those tangles," teased Tom.

"$5 is very good value to cross the Golden Gate Bridge," extolled Tom.

"Yeah, I stabbed her... but she was mean to me," mumbled Tom.

"I got this dog from the shelter," expounded Tom.

"Someone has removed the two of spades from this deck," deduced Tom.

"Don't deny these tiny creatures their legends!" implored Tom.

"One day I hope to be a really angry snake," aspired Tom.
