Post Meeting Sally Rand
Don Lundry contacted me about the biography and pemitted me to post his anecdote about meeting Sally Rand at MidAmeriCon in 1976:

[begin transcription]

At the 1976 Worldcon honoring Heinlein, I was assisting at the Guest of Honor speech. While waiting for people to start arriving, I was approached by a well groomed sixty-ish woman who very quietly asked where the speech was being held. She was neatly (and modestly) dressed and looked like almost anyone’s grandmother. I told here the room was being set up and asked if I could help her. She said that she understood there might be a special seat for her as she was there at the express invitation of Mr. Heinlein. I had no idea of any such arrangements, but escorted her to the front row of the auditorium.

Later I asked who she was and was told that it was Sally Rand and that she and Heinlein had gone to school together. I was very surprised, since even I (in my youth) had heard of Sally Rand. When I told my father about it later, he was very impressed since he had been a cabdriver inn Chicago around the time of her fame (or notoriety)!

[end transcription]

And the following year Lundry was chair of Suncon in Florida. See what meeting Sally Rand can do for a guy!?

*shudder* I dunno. I think the punishment was out of proportion for just briefly escorting a stripper.

In the end, I found Heinlein is finite. Thus, finite analysis is needed.

Oh, he got off fairly lightly compared to some of the subsequent worldcons . . . the one in 1978, for example.
