Thanks very much to everyone who found and posted this! RAH sounds very "Missouri" in his accent in 1949, to me. There is 13 seconds of his famous "Year One" Apollo 11 moment here: and twenty years later he sounds just a little more West Coast, though basically the same. I wonder if others would agree. Anyway, it was a thrill just to see the film.

A full-length version of the 1949 City at Night episode, broadcast live from the set of Destination Moon, has turned up on Youtube in two segments.

Part 1:
Part 2:

(By the way, earlier Youtube excerpts of the same kinescope have been taken down for copyright violations.)

George Pal introduces Heinlein at about 12 minutes into part 1. He is finished by 13:22.

Heinlein appears again at the beginning of Part 2, finishing at about 1:06, then pops up very briefly near the end at 22:15 to introduce a Navy lieutenant.

See earlier remarks in this thread for a discussion of this video.

Stuff I haven't seen before: Interview with a rocket plane pilot. Second interview with Heinlein. (He turns on the charm but this flops because neither of the hosts have ever heard of Cyrano de Bergerac.) Film editor. Set painter. More smoking. More of director Irving Pichel, who really is damn charmng.

Thanks, Bill, for the links. I've been interested in seeing the entire show ever since I first saw the clips.
