Post Happy Space Day!
Happy Space Day to all; welcome to Year 40 H.S.T.!

A bit unexpectedly, we will be celebrating by playing hooky and going to see an afternoon showing of Moon. Review in due course.

You know, it's an old joke that the way to get any biomedical grant approved is to throw in the phrase "...and may lead to a cure for cancer."

So maybe all the space exploration grant and proposal writers could add, "...and may lead to discovery of vast reserves of oil on other planets."

Or... what would be the killer tag line here?

In the end, I found Heinlein is finite. Thus, finite analysis is needed.

All right, I haven't had any caffeine this morning -- what is H.S.T. time? The first thing that popped into my head was Heinlein Standard Time and it won't go away and let anything else in.

It was on the front page of the original web site; have not found a good way to integrate it here yet.* Heinlein Standard Time is correct; it numbers from the date and time of the Footstep, which was the start of Year 1, Day 1.

Some have argued about the relative centering of the moment but as Heinlein was arbitrary about it, so shall we be.

*Peter wrote a nice little code snippet that presented the time but I have not yet figured out how to insert a small HTML/JS snip in a frame in Joomla...

Isn't this the first day of Year 41? :?

Now, if I weren't so lazy, I'd get up to check this, but I could have sworn in The Cat Who Walked Through Walls, July 20th was "Moon Day." Anyway, that's what it is in my house, and yes, I'm a geek rearing the next generation of geeks, and we celebrate Moon Day with a cake decorated with an astronaut, a moon, and Saturn, not for any reason except that Saturn is pretty.

Far better Saturn than, um, some other representations of moons...

I thought it was Neil's Day or Neil Armstrong Day somewhere in the future history stories. Maybe I'm remembering the way different time lines were designated -- Leslie LeCroix or Neil or ? depending on who got there first and how that shaped all futures branching from that moment.
