Re: Heinlein on the Auto Industry
Interesting link, although the rest of the segment isn't mentioned - wherein it turns out that the cars destined to be crushed wouldn't even be salable in the first place: "The workmanship was sloppy and they often lacked essentials like instrument dials or air conditioners. But when one day I noticed from the way the teeth of the crusher came down on one that it lacked even a power plant, I spoke up..."

Re: Heinlein on the Auto Industry
At his best, Heinlein was spooky in his prognostication abilities. I'm certain that, had he lived in the late middle ages, he would have been burned at the stake, not for heresy (that rarely happened) but for witchcraft. <wry grin>

Re: Heinlein on the Auto Industry
Heinlein also has a lengthy comment on automobiles in The Rolling Stones, a novel essentially about transportation, its means and ends.

Well -- Michel de Notredame did live in the late middle ages.

Re: Heinlein on the Auto Industry
Yeah, but unlike Heinlein, he didn't delight in getting in people's faces when they were asking for it. Can you imagine how Heinlein would have handled Savonarola? <wry grin>

You're not really going to Nostredame us, are you?
