Colorado fire approaching Heinlein house
The huge wildfire that is causing mass evacuation of Colorado Springs and the Air Force Academy is spreading towards the area where Heinlein's 1950s home stands.
The best interactive map of the fire is found here:
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_20928988Heinlein's house is southwest of the bulge of I-24 below the town, approximately in the middle between the three small lakes (two round, one oblong). I am having trouble measuring distances but it looks as if the perimeter is well under ten miles away and spreading in a direction that would merit less protection than the main part of town and the Academy.
Matters little to Heinleinista, I suppose, but there you are. If you look, there are some RAH-related names in the area: Waldo Canyon, Ormes Peak, others.
ADDENDUM: I had never realized that Cheyenne Mountain and the resulting first-strike target that so infuriated Heinlein was almost LITERALLY in his back yard. I understand his anger much better...
