Post Alec Nevala-Lee's ASTOUNDING: Bio of John W. Campbell & More
Alec Nevala-Lee, whom you may know from his fiction, is working on a biography of John W. Campbell, Jr., a narrative intertwined with the lives of three of his most important writers. The publication date is next August.

Yet already Astounding: John W. Campbell, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, L. Ron Hubbard, and the Golden Age of Science Fiction has been announced, cover painting, blurbs, and all, on Harper Collins's site. And theoretically, it can be pre-ordered from several online sources with links the publisher helpfully provides there.

Thought you might like to know.

Thanks, Bill, for the heads-up. I've just now pre-ordered it.

I met Alec at the 2016 WorldCon. I believe he has something in the queue for an issue of the Heinlein Journal, but since I'm not heavily involved in anything editorial with THJ I'm not positive. I think the book will be a good addition...he had some interesting thoughts in person, not that I can remember any. :(

I missed meeting him there, but Geo Rule told me about his Campbell book, and since Alec lives in the Chicago area, we met up a few weeks later. It was a great joy to converse with someone so interested in the history of SF.

I believe you're correct.

He's involved in another project. Alec found, among Campbell's papers, an early draft of Campbell's most enduring story, "Who Goes There?" The draft, entitled "Frozen Hell," is 45 pages longer than the final version, and considerably different. Wildside Press is planning to publish it, along with introductions by Alec and by Robert Silverberg. No word on just when it might hit the streets.
