Thanks for posting the link. I commented a bit and looked at the thread on the biography, written back in August. Unfortunately it's mostly "has anybody seen the biography yet" and "nope," "no," and "what biography?" No followup to the thread since the biography was released.

There really isn't a great deal in volume 1 (or in volume 2 for that matter) that specifically addresses their interests, I don't think. What has come to be called "polyamory" was one anthropological and cultural concept among many Heinlein cultivated -- and in fact kind of mashes together of things Heinlein probably saw as moderately distinct (like the lunar line marriage coming from South Pacific Island anthropology done in the 1930's. I haven't been able to run down sourcing, but maybe I need to go back and re-read Coming of Age in Samoa again. I read that as a teenager and it is no longer sharp in memory) Poly in Heinlein makes more sense, really, if you read it together with other Freethought elements, and place it in context with the long tradition of radical marriage reform in American politics that goes back into the 19th century.

Go right ahead, as long as you keep in mind that it was a hoax.

Well, the bottom line (you should pardon the expression) is that, when it comes to sex, people will DO anything.

I don't think the hoax was exposed until fairly recently - long after 1973, in any case. I recall Mead being quite respected until the late 1970s or so.

(Completely off-topic, but last week's Mad Men used Mead's name to absolutely deadly effect.)
