So what's the connection, if any, between the film and Roy Alfred-Marvin Fisher ballad "Destination Moon?" Is the song in the movie? Or did the songwriters simply grab a title off a theater marquee? Apparently Nat "King" Cole sang it in a short film in 1951, a year later.

I just noticed that the Youtube clip featuring Nat "King" Cole's recording (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-lCb6gwaL4) says it was recorded 11 December 1950-- a few months after the movie came out. Fair circumstantial evidence that the song was inspired by the movie title.

I'd been more familiar with Dinah Washington's 1962 version. The song was plucked from the dust and revived, no doubt, because the Space Age had arrived.

A fun way to hear her cover (and a good way for Americans to celebrate 5 May) is to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYq3Bb1YTjk, in which it is the soundtrack to a series of spaceflight clips from the 1998 docudrama miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.
