Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle Receive Heinlein Awards At NASFiC Heinlein Banquet in Seattle

SEPTEMBER 4, 2005--At a gala banquet held at the Seattle Airport Hilton Convention Center today, Mr. Larry Niven and Dr. Jerry Pournelle were presented by The Heinlein Society with separate Heinlein Awards for their lifetime achievements for outstanding published work in hard science fiction or technical writings inspiring the human exploration of space.

Presenting the awards to Mr. Niven and Dr. Pournelle were three of the independent judges who selected the winners: writer Gregory Bear, who served as toastmaster of the event, writer Michael Flynn, a previous Heinlein Award winner, and Professor C. Herbert Gilliland, of the US Naval Academy at Annapolis. The Society's annual black tie banquet was attended by 150 members of Cascadia Con at this year's 8th North America Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC). Winners of this year's Golden Duck Awards and Seiun Awards were also announced by representatives of their respective sponsors
